Housing Characteristics

The Most Common Styles of Homes in Lisgar

Score Factor 1: Housing Characteristics

For a neighbourhood of its size and population, Lisgar doesn’t showcase much diversity in housing styles. The area is mainly composed of detached and semi-detached family homes, with a limited number of townhouses scattered throughout. One notable exception is Trewlany Estates, a distinctive subdivision featuring large detached homes situated on small, private courts. These courts are exclusive, with only a handful of houses per street, giving residents the feeling of living on a secluded road.

Trelawny Estates

  • Large homes situated on private cul-de-sacs, providing a peaceful and safe environment with no through traffic, making it an ideal place for children to play.

  • Excellent curb appeal, with many homes having beautifully maintained exteriors that enhance the neighborhood’s overall aesthetic.

Detached Homes

Many parts of the neighborhood feature rows of similarly styled, simple brick homes. While these homes are relatively new, many could benefit from some cosmetic upgrades to enhance their appeal. However, the area around Osprey Marsh stands out with a small cluster of homes that have much more character and charm. These properties typically command higher prices, thanks to their prime location near the marsh, offering both scenic views and added privacy.

Semi Detached Homes and Town Homes

Well-Designed and Low Maintenance
Homes in this area are thoughtfully designed with an emphasis on functionality and low maintenance. Many properties feature modern layouts and efficient use of space, making them ideal for those who want a hassle-free living experience.

Smaller Lot Sizes
Compared to more established neighborhoods like Meadowvale, the lot sizes in this area tend to be smaller on average. This can be an advantage for those looking for a more manageable outdoor space, especially if you’re not interested in extensive yard work or maintenance.

Great for First-Time Home Buyers and Young Families
With their affordability and practicality, these homes are a great choice for first-time homebuyers or young families. The smaller lot sizes and low-maintenance design make it easier to focus on enjoying your home and community, without being overwhelmed by upkeep.

Community Vibe

and Amenities

Score Factor 2: Community Vibe & Amenities

Pros:

  • Family-Friendly Atmosphere: Lisgar is a great place to raise a family, offering a safe and welcoming environment.

  • Recreational Opportunities: The neighborhood features several parks, trails, and splash pads, providing plenty of outdoor activities for children and families to enjoy.

  • Convenient Shopping: Lisgar offers excellent shopping amenities, ensuring that residents have easy access to everything they need.

Cons:

  • Lack of Historical Charm: While Lisgar is a well-developed suburban area, it lacks the history and character found in older neighborhoods.

  • Entertainment Options: As a primarily residential area, Lisgar may not have as many entertainment options. Residents often need to drive to other parts of the city for a broader range of activities.

Osprey Marsh

Osprey Marsh, also known as the Ninth Line Storm Management Pond, was initially created to help mitigate flooding caused by heavy rainfall. Over time, the area has naturally developed into a thriving habitat, similar to Lake Wabukayne in Meadowvale, and is now home to a variety of plants, birds, and animals.

In collaboration with the Lisgar Residents Association, the Rotary Club of Mississauga Meadowvale secured a grant from the Trillium Foundation to enhance the surroundings of the marsh. This included the installation of historical and habitat interpretative signs, which help educate visitors about the area’s natural history and its importance to local wildlife. If you’re in the area, Osprey Marsh is definitely worth a visit to experience the beauty and tranquility it offers.

Parks, Paths & Trails

Much of Lisgar was thoughtfully planned with families in mind. The neighborhood features a variety of sports fields and playgrounds, making it an ideal area for children and active families. Running the entire length of the community from north to south, the Lisgar Meadow Brook Trail provides a scenic route for walkers, joggers, and cyclists, offering plenty of opportunities for outdoor recreation.

Transit and Transportation

For commuters heading to downtown Toronto, Lisgar GO station offers a convenient train service that takes you to Union Station in approximately 50 minutes. However, it’s important to note that train service on the Milton line, which Lisgar is a part of, is only available during rush hour. In addition to its commuter services, Lisgar GO station is home to the Many Feathers Farmer’s Market, which runs every Sunday from June to October. This local market offers a variety of fresh, locally sourced produce and is definitely worth a visit for those in the area looking to support local farmers and enjoy fresh goods.

It falls within the budget of the average family buyer, making it an ideal choice for those seeking a newer home in the area. This neighborhood is particularly attractive to larger families, as it offers plenty of spacious 4-bedroom homes, providing the space and comfort that growing families need.
